Our 17yr old daughter saved her money all summer and decided Future shop was where she was going to buy her subwoofer car audio system. She spent$500 and made an appt to have the Audio installation dept put it in. On Aug21/05 she arrived at the appt to be told that she needed to upgrade her cables – another $100 to match the vehicle. So now including the installtation she was at $700. A week after it was installed her radio and CD system stopped working. She made an appt for the next morning at 10am and took time off work only to be told when she arrived it wasnt til the next day, I called the Dept Mgr and he had her hang around til 2:30 and fit her in only to tell her there was nothing that they had done to cause the Radio/Cd to fail. She came home in tears, my husband called spoke to the same Mgr and we were told to come the next day. We did, the installer and the Mgr showed us and told us that there was no way possible that this could be their fault that if we had any audio knowledge we would know this too. We told him we were taking the vehicle, 6 month old Tiburon, to the Hyundai dealership and if they said it was in anyway the Future Shop fault we would go to the Better Bus. Bureau, a lawyer and the media – he told us if we wanted to waste our time go ahead!! The Hyundai dealership Serv. Mgr and Mechanic to a look!! First of all they condemned this 6 month old new car as a fire hazard, the installer had cut an unsealed hole from engine to dash of paasenger foot area, it had already started to chafe the wire and once thru would soon cause a fire, hurting our daughter and who else!! They would not let us drive the car without disengaging the system, this would have also resulted in serious water damage to carpets etc on the first rainfall. Secondly they showed us the shoddy job that the installer had done on the connection to the radio this had already resulted in a wire snapping off and was hanging there live at the passenger foot area. We are no longer covered now under the car warranty. Hyundai asked us to take it to Madman McKays for a second oppinion we did that and told the fellow there nothing of their findings, he couldn’t believe what he saw and it was EXACTLY the same. We have now lodged a formal complaint thru the Better Business Bureau. We will see how that goes, we want full reimbursement, payment for a new system st Madman Mckays and the installation, a new Radio/CD and repair/installation covered on that, $100 for Gas, payment for time and damage to the new car, compensation for the risk to my daughter (Fire) and an apology!! We will let you know how things progress. Next it will be our lawyer and small claims court!! Thanks for the opportunity!!

file a complaint with futureshop. Putting things in writing and/or cc’ing it to a lawyer is something im sure they would take seriously ( email : service@futureshop.com) and look at talking to the media. I know there is a cbc tv show called underdogs hosted by wendy mesley that features people fighting large companies.

If you have any other kids planning to do the same … go to a&b sound they wont mess things up and if they do they will tell you and take responsibility for it.

first of all 500 + 100 = 600…..not 700 as you said. Also it’s not future shops fault if she went in the wrong day for her appointment. her appointment was a day later because they were busy until then. Also risk of fire? you have a risk every time you sit in a car…maybe you should sue Hyundai for making a car that can go 200km/h when that is higher than any speed limit in north america.

Okay, and then sue every other auto maker in the world for producing cars that go 200. Shit, my Toyota Echo has done 200. The top speed of a vehicle has nothing to do with a potential fire hazard like the one posted here.

Normally I don’t call people on the internet or anywhere anything but you are a F****** MORON. Please stop breathing my air and existing on my planet. I am a die-hard Future Shop customer but that is a f***up and I will not sit here and have someone try to convince people on a public forum otherwise. Future Shop screwed up an install and these people are entitled to what they are asking for (which is VERY fair IMHO)

Something to say?
