As expected, Future Shop hasn’t lived up to its promise of contacting me regarding my complaint before the 27th of May (check previous posts: “The Unprofessionalism of Future Shop” and “Unprofessionalism Revisted”). Therefore, I have decided to increase the pressure by submitting this web site to search engines. Maybe if more people can see this, they’ll think twice before making buying decisions from that mediocre retailer!’, ”, 0, ‘Why Future Shop still lives in the past!

I am currently employed at the Futureshop in Brandon Manitoba, needless to say it is a joke!! I have only been working for them for 5 months but I have seen my fair share of crap. One of their TOP salesmen quit after being harassed by head office constantly about how he needed to improve his numbers. Many other people have quit for the same reason and I am going to be in that list very soon. It is April 4th and I still have not received my T4, even after doing the T4 request thing multiple times. My accountant will be sending them a formal complaint and a bill for any penalties I may receive for having my Income Tax in late. The one thing that really frustrates me about this company is its Ranking Report. They take all the different things you can sell and put you as a percent on their website for all other employees to see. I have been anywhere from the Top 10 to the bottom 90. Does this ranking report even have anything to do with the ability to sell or is it just the way the customers are. If someone doesn’t want to buy the product service plan then they dont want to buy it. BUT that can take me from the top 10 to the bottom 30 in one day!!! Therefore reducing my chance of being promoted AND the way they talk Increasing my chances of being let go. It is not based on each store but on districts. So from brandon East is our district…we are one of the smallest stores. Being a Product Expert is WAY easier than being a Sales Associate, Especially in the ranking report. How many people do you know that would buy Extra warranty on a printer…..I WOULDN’T!!! Now…..how many of you would buy extra warranty on a Laptop…..I WOULD!!! $120 printer with a 2 year extra warranty worth $45 NO because In two years I am going to get a new printer anyway, and if it breaks $120 isn’t that much. NOW when you are purchasing a $2000 Laptop where one part is worth $200 and the labour is worth $80 an hour and they milk you for all your worth, an extra $300 is worth it on a $2000 laptop. THEREFORE MAKING IT EASIER FOR A PE TO STAY IN THE TOP 10!!!! Well Im off to quit my job and start working for STAPLES!!! BYE

P.S Don’t work at Futureshop In Brandon unless you want the DSM on your ass every day like a fat kid on cake!!!

7 years i worked at a Future Shop, i cannot believe i lasted that long!!
Threats by management to “sell the fucking warranty, or this may not be the place for you to work anymore” Regional managers coming for visits instructing us on how to be “god-Like” ?? Being made stand up with a peghook full of batteries on on arm, bags of chips and cheesies on the other arm, and pushing them on customers while they are buying a copy of a LOTR dvd at 10:05 in the morning. Grown mature men who are good people being driven to tears by constant job threats from all levels of management, being told to do “jumping jacks” out in the parking lot at 8:15 in the morning or you are not part of the team ,,,i can go on and on!!!!!! Fast forward a Carreer???? Holy shit i can’t believe this is going on in this day and age!!!!!!!!!!!

Placed an order a dishwasher from their Markahm Shop, the “EXPERT” assured me that for $70 I can get it installed and also get rid of the old one. I did that immediately , only to be told later that Future shop does not install dishwashers and the fee was only for delivery. When the matter got reported to Manager, he just said that the “EXPERT” wasn’t actually an expert and they had to train him on dishwashers. Without any qualms or being apologetic, he suggested that I can get the order cancelled. Their system are so ancient that it took them alomst 24 hours to cancel the order and refund my amount. Reported the matter to Kevin Layden , COO but even after 24 hours, no repsonse…..Beware of these commission hungry sales associates in Future Shop………

You know what the most frustrating thing about working at Future Shop is? Well, I’ll tell you. Its not the staff, my fellow employees are like a second family, always looking out for me, and I them. Its not even the hours, which can get stretched between associates to awkward degrees.

Its the fact that I am on commission.

Remember, this is not a bad thing, I can save up and pay for my education by working here, on a commission basis. Management and associates understand that I have goals, and will help me, no doubt.

Then why is being on commission a bad thing?

Because I have to constantly strive to serve ignorant, petty and foolish people on a daily basis, hoping that I can scrape enough change so I can go to another year of university. Many people complain that commission based sales people are greedy “crooks”. Hmm. I’m pretty sure that I’m a regular person trying to make a living, and if, through my hard work, I make a little extra then when I worked in a shithole factory, then, God willing I’ll keep it up. And I’m one hundred percent sure that the single parent whose only looking to take care of his kids has the same feelings. Employees are people trying to make a living, no matter where they work. Everyone wants to benefit their lives.

So don’t go assuming that people on a commission basis are greedy.

Things, for me anyways, have been slowing in terms of my monetary gains. I could blow as much money as I’d like on stupid crap, but I’ve got a deadline and a certain amount of money to make. Naturally, being in this quasi-static situation, the smart thing to do is review my situation. And you know what I’ve found?

You’re nothing special.

Customers, for the most part, are these panicky, finicky, stingy, petty and ignorant people who immediately assume that, because they’re buying a $23.00 battery for their cordless phone (and this makes them unhappy – spending money) that I will make a HUGE commission. No, I don’t. And you’re lucky I’ve spent so much time helping you out.

Look, my point is I understand you’re having a bad day. Maybe you got laid-off. I’m sorry. Maybe you lost a loved one the other day. I’m sorry about that, too. Or maybe you just feel like pushing a skinny 19 year old around to make yourself feel better. I’m sorr-. No wait. I’m not sorry. If you’re miserable, do the right thing, keep it to yourself.

The biggest inspiration on writing this post was when I was helping a person find a memory card for his camera. I wasn’t aware that my merch team had moved a certain brand to a different stand (i just came back from my weekend). So when the guy finds it, he lets me know. My response was exactly this; “Oh, I’m sorry bud, I didn’t know that they moved the memory there”.

He doesn’t do the right thing – he doesn’t keep things smooth. No, thats too difficult, being a decent human being. He takes it the easy way – he goes out of his way to let me know that I’m not helpful. Then he goes on a hateful rampage on how I make commission etc.
Why the hell does that offend you so much? Me on commission? What does that have to do with anything? I just spent 10 minutes of my life on helping you find something that was 3 dollars cheaper. I couldn’t, but I tried, and you go on some speech?
Buddy, instead of insulting me for failing to help you even though I tried, you should commend me on my patience on not dropping your petty ass.

I read a post that said the future shop employees are “insignificant people who make our lives miserable”. Au Contraire, you fucking idiot. Its you, the miser of a consumer that you are, that spreads your misery. My god, you make it sound like we oppress you! You’re the one with such a disregard to your own preferences that you waltz in here and ruin peoples days! Its so pathetic its funny! If you don’t like us, stay the hell out of the store. It’ll be nicer for everyone. And stop assuming that the kid at the checkout IS FUTURESHOP INCARNATE! If you’ve got a complaint, don’t address it to an employee as “you guys…”.

I can’t believe how much sleep I’m losing, in my efforts to classify the average consumer on a personal situation basis. You’re ridiculous, selfish people, who are pissed that “FUTURESHOP” isn’t “FREESHOP”.

My user name is regularcustomer because I shop at other stores, restaurants, etc. I make sure that the employees of other places get to know me, and I certainly try my best to let the employee do their job as best they can, and be appreciative of it. I know how much nicer it will make their day. My sincerest thanks to those beautiful people who come in to the store and benefit from being polite and positive, you are the best customers, and when I say “have a lovely day”, I mean it then and only then

As for the rest of you nutjobs (you know who you are)
I know you’re stressed, you’ve got things to get done. But the same goes for the rest of us. Don’t think that because we’re friendly and polite that we’re weak, or that we’re up to something. We are doing the best we can to smile while you and your thorns dig into us. We’re trying to make your experience as nice as possible. We are not at your beck and call. We could be dicks and still get commission. Yet how many posts describe us as “nice” (with parenthesis?) We’re not here to suck your cock, we’re here to make our money, go home and live our lives. So buy it, or don’t, but quit playing cat and mouse so you can feel that ‘rush’ of being wanted, of being someone in …control.

I can’t speak for every of the thousands of employees at future shop, but I do know that I’ll try to make your day nicer. Lets see if you, the illogical and colossal prick that you are, can emulate.

futureshop in windsor has it’s own issues, you go into the store, and you have a huge group of ppl standing around in a circle ,ignoring you. I’ll be standing for like 15 minutes and no one approaches me, if im buying a big screen or a laptop suddenly there my best friends. Another thing is how they push the warranty on you, they’ll even discount the product so you you buy the warranty. dont even get me started on management, i had a dispute because some one mislead me on the warranty on a LCD t.v and the manager their was clueless and a prix. I WILL NEVER SHOP THEIR AGAIN!!!!!
