September last year I bought 2 new TVs at Future Shop. They had a promotion at the time for no payment and no interest for 16 months. My receipt shows that I am qualify and given a 16 months promotion. Last week I discovered that my bill is now due. 16 months from September, my bill should be good until January 2010, I ask myself? So I called the head office. And the run around begins……
First, the head office told me that it is just a minor imput mistake at the store. I just need to go and have it changed to 16 month by the store manager. So I went to the store. After waiting for over 30 minutes for the manager to free herself, she told me that she will try her best to correct the problem but can’t guarantee that she will be able to do so. She then told me that by her record, they never had a 16 months promotion. The 16 months shown on my bill was putting or given by mistake by the saleman and in her point of view it’s a human error. I responded that it was their mistake and they should honor the deal because there was signs everywhere at that time for 16 months promotion. She now turning the blame on me for not coming back to the store sooner. I call the head office again and they said that there is nothing they can do for me. I have to solve the issue with the store that sold the items to me. And the store told me that they will try and call me back. I have now been waiting for a week for them to call me back….
Please advise what I should do next.

That’s pretty tricky….

I know last september the promotions offered were
-3 month no interest no payments (no charge)
-6 month no interest no payments (no charge, computers only)
-12 months no interest no payments (69.99 admin fee)
-24 months equal payments (99.99 admin fee)

I was not aware of a 16 month promotion…

The problem here lies with the fact that future shop does there financing with a company called HSBC. That local future shop has no way to change it, so they are probably in the process of delegating with HSBC. If they can not get any headway with them (if i am not aware of a 16 month promo i am sure most people arent, or it was a misprint on the sign) request that the future shop do what they call a return resell of the product and give you the 3 month financing on it from today. That will get you up to 15 months, and should be a happy medium.

I see where your frustration comes from, but please understand that this is completely out of the stores hands, any decisions made will be that of HSBC, and will not represent the opinion, beliefs, or views of that store.

I really hope you get this worked out… Unfortunately future shop is hiring so many people all the time because they expand so fast that there is a good chance someone new to the team rang you in and either
A) mislead you to believe there was 16 month promo when it was really 12 month
B) keyed it in wrong in the system because they didn’t know how to do it properly and were to embarrassed to ask.

That’s okay… try buying a 1300 dollar laptop and have the kniving salesjerk put on a DESKTOP warranty for 3 years for “only 170″.

Admittedly i did not see this on my receipt… but all i was doing when i looked at the receipt was seeing how much i paid on my visa and the rest on my debit… why sholuld have i insspected the TYPE of warranty????

the only reason i found out is because i buy both at futureshop and bestbuy… and when i went in to buy a laptop from bestbuy that i wanted for my girlfriend that was similar to the one i got… the gentelman looked at my receipt for referennce, and looked in the computer for something similar, he notifced that the “service plan was NOT the right amount”

he said for a 3 year laptop carry-in service plan SHOULD be about 330… more for a courier service. i was confused and wondered why it mattered, but the associate assured me they use the same numbers (apparently same company). Suffice it to say, he said i should wait on buying the laptop, it wasnt on sale yet, a new flyer was coming with the unit on sale and i should wait because i would have to come in for a price refund the next day anyway. Great service.

he directed me to go back to FS and get my receipt redone. sounded good. i went there and guess what…

1) Saw the young man who sold me the thing 2 months earlier… he was eager to help UNTIL i voiced my concerns… he said that Bestbuy employees knew nothing and that it was fine. But my receipt clearly said “PSP 3 yr CPU/Mon” for model HP9550, not my Toshiba laptop!

2) Once i talked to customer service they took forever to help

3) Customer service supervisor said the General manager was on lunch… General Manager asked how I knew this… he plainly stated that bestbuy SHOULD NOT be doing that… DOING WHAT? helping me out?

had to wait forever once they found out that i had to come back.

Since future shop and bestbuy are close here in red deer i went back to bestbuy just to see what anyone could do.

by this time i just wanted someone to listen

at bestbuy…

1) bestbuy guy who helped me got his computer supervisor
2) cpu supervisor went right away to Bestbuy General Manager
3) General Manager came back to the laptop section i was in
4) General manager said he would contact somone to help me, i had to leave my #.
5) Before i was even DONE shopping, the district manager called me, and i was to go back to futureshop and get the general manager to refund ALL MY MONEY and give me the correct service plan.
6) I was awarded $100 in store credit at bestbuy

lesson learned:
BEST BUY IS THE BOSS
f! future shop… f it all the way.

Fshop and Best Buy are the same company…. It really just depends on the specific person you get. FS generally wants to get you the right product the first time, since they are on commission, and they don’t want you to return your stuff. In any case, they don’t make any more money off of a Desktop Warranty vs a Laptop Warranty. Was your Toshiba laptop on the receipt with this warranty? In my experience, it’s impossible to put two incompatible items like that on an order.

Something to say?
