So, up until this past weekend, I’ve never had a problem with Futureshop.  In fact, I shop there regularly, and it’s often the first place I go to when looking for any tech related equipment or devices I need.  Staff has always been helpful and pleasant with me, as they’ve never steered me wrong before.

Because of this, it was the first palce I thought of to take my laptop when I encountered an odd error on my machine.  To be honest, I’m not new to computers in the slightest, but this recent error had me stumped.  I had attempted a System Restore, only to have an error pop up halfway through, and as a result my computer was stuck in limbo; I couldn’t finish the installation of Vista, nor could I access the files I needed to restart it.  This puzzled both me and my tech-savy friends, so in it went.

I explained the problem to the guy at the desk, telling him that all I wanted was to have Vista reinstalled on my system, and if they could take a look at my integrated webcam which had magically stopped working a few days prior as well.  They assured me it would not take long, and to come back in an hour or two and everything should be good to go.

A few hours pass, and I call to ask if it’s done.  They inform me that it’s not done, and I should come back early the next day.  Now, I’ve reformatted many a computer in my time, and I’ve never had it take more then an hour, hour and a half tops, and here they were telling me it’s taking them over double that time to put a disc into a laptop, and follow a couple prompts.  I was a bit pissed off, but tried not to think about it.

Next day comes around, and I show up around noon to pick up my laptop.  The tech goes in the back, brings it out to me, boots it up, and lets me have a look.  A quick once-over and everything appears to be normal, so I go back to my home with it.  That’s when I noticed just how badly they managed to fuck up the simplest of jobs.

First off, they installed the wrong version of Vista onto my computer.  Seriously.  I went it with Vista Home Premium 64-bit, and left with Vista Home basic.  I mean, there’s a big blue sticker right below the keyboard that says what the fuck is supposed to be on there, how they missed that is beyond me.  The webcam wasn’t fixed.  Drivers were missing left, right, and center.  The programs that came with the factory install were also missing, and had been replaced by random junk that nobody in their right mind would actually install on their computer, none of which I had requested be installed either, I might add.  I didn’t really need a Google, Yahoo, AND Ask.com toolbar installed on IE.  I can’t think of a single person I know that would actually put RealPlayer on their computer, but they thought I needed it more then drivers, apparently, since they installed it, and even put three additional shortcuts to it in my Program Files folder just in case I had problems finding it on the Desktop.  Finally, they installed the worst of the worst.  They had actually installed AOL and Microsoft Works, just for kicks, I guess.

After I sifted through the shitstorm they had left on my computer, I headed back in to ask what the fuck had happened.  They politely informed me that since I took it off the property, I would have to pay again in order for them to take a look at it, and see what was wrong.  They also snickered at me for not creating a backup disk in the first place, since I had only made a backup using the recovery wizard that came with the system.

All in all, I can’t believe how terrible they are there, and now I’m out $100.  Failshop can suck my ****.

ok, all that software was probably trial software that came preinstalled with the oem operating system discs. and it does take at least 4-6 hours to properly do a os install… it doesnt take as long to get it running but all of the windows updates, service packs, java, adobe, shockwave, things people need, manufacturer specific updates all increase the allotted time…

PLUS THE FACT THEYRE WORKING ON 40 F***ING COMPUTERS AT ONCE!!!

WHY THE HELL SHOULD YOURS BE THE TOP PRIORITY…

they shouldnt have told you 2 hours they shouldve said well call when its done, but you should have expected longer and sucked it up.

Obviously that specific tech was a little confused. They do get extremely busy in there, and paperwork can sometimes get mixed up. I fail to see how that is Futureshop, and not just a mistake. Take it back to them with your complaint, and maybe speak to the GM if you can. They may comp your repair and fix it. He definitely should not have set the expectation to come back so soon, but in all honesty, s**t happens, and different things could have come up.

Something to say?
