I am doing my research. There is a lot of confusing information. Is is ok to buy refurbished lap tops without extended warranties and if so, is it better to go to a computer shop. I am in Vancouver BC. Thanks for any advice.

If you worry about warranty, most credit cards double the manufacturers warranty up to a year free of charge. Buying electronics and such, always pay with credit card.

I would be careful with refurb laptops. They have a 90-day warranty, on top of the year warranty. If the year warranty is up, you have 90 days.
Spend extra money and go for a new one. Just stay away form the Gateway ones.
