I used to work for Future Shop. I quit my job after two years.  Future Shop is the worst company to work for.  I am not going to mention any names in this all you need to know is that this is the BELLEVILLE ONTARIO F Shop DO NOT SHOP THERE!!!!!!!WE NEED TO PUT THEM OUT OF BUSINESS!!!!!.

First off they do not give you coffee breaks, They expect you to work an eight hour shift with only a lunch to break it up. 

The Belleville Future Shop has the worst management over any other company I have ever been part of (worse then Wal-Mart).  The store manager is A lazy over weight, over tempered meanie thats blames all his life problems on his employees.  He is constantly yelling at his employees at morning meetings.  During meetings customers will pile up at the front of store before it is open and he will sometimes make fun of them standing there.  I find everyone in the store to be immature and childish.

 The Ops Manager is even worse! She is the most lazy east indian I have ever met! She sits in the office all day on her ass watching the cameras then actually has the nerve to tell people they are not doing there jobs! This is going on at all Future Shops accross the globe tho.  I tried eatting breakfast in the warehouse one day and she flipped on me, Meanwhile she was eatting her breakfast watching me on the cameras.  She was a hypocrite.  I got anything I wanted out of that place if you follow what I mean. They treated me like shit there so I had to get them back and I did!!I encourage anybody that reads this to go there and F the place up. FUTURE SHOP SUCKS!

Sounds like a crappy job. However it looked as if you’re to blame for certain things as well:

1) You’re disrespect towards management (calling one fat and rude is rude and immature.)
2) There is no need to mention “east indian”. It shows a certain prejudice on your part.
3) There is no eating anywhere but in the lunch room. This is due to Health and Safety Regulations in the workplace. You got caught, bummer.
4) You should get coffee breaks and you should have taken that up with management.

Im not to blame for any of it! Your just another person who does not understand.
First off I can say what I want, I live in Canada which is a free country. That means I have the right to express myself and say my opinion if I like.
I dont really even have a problem with Future Shop as a company. I am pissed at the management at store number 611 and I seriously mean this. Last week I picked up a job for a paper route around my nieghborhood and go figure there were future shop flyers all through them. Lets just say no one knew the sales that were going on at the old F Shop this week.
I dont know where you work but where I do right now you dont have to eat lunch only in the lunch room that it BULL SH*T. I can eat while talking on the phone to customers at my new job so there!
I am sick of working somewhere and being treated like a slave it is absolutely despicable : deserving to be despised : so worthless or obnoxious as to rouse moral indignation.
Also take a look at my first comment left by bvilleemployee on October 30th, 2009. I dont know who wrote that but the work there and they know what goes down there.
Do you work there becuase if you do then I would shut my mouth but since you dont and have no idea what these people are like and how they treat people then you shouldnt be commenting.
Oh and about the coffee break thing, yah they really would not let us take them. You work a 8.5 hour shift at the old 611 F Shop Belleville
you only get to break once. My current workplace a break every 2 hours of work. You can eat whenever you feel like it. The key to a good business is keeping your employees satisfied first and at F Shop they fail to do so everyday.
PS The East Indian remark is not prejudice thats a fact. Thanks…write back if you feel but this website is meant for peoplewho hate future shop.

all you have to do is tell your DSM i want a break, you’re entitled to a lunch break as well as another 15 minute break, but future shop is commision based so unless it is extremely dead you should want to stay out on the floor for as long as possible to boost your numbers. and you probably didnt do very well in COE with that kind of motivation

How many times do I gotta say this Belleville 611 does not like giving 15 minute breaks, they treat you like shit if you ask for one. Plus I was a merchandiser so your damn right I deserved a break cuz they are the only ones who work at that shit hole. What is a employee doing on Future Shop Sucks website anyway?? Get back to your post selling Ipod cases and headphones lol.

Do you think that stating that you take out the Future Shop flyers is something that will win you favour? It just indicates that the problem is once again with you and your poor work ethic and arrogant outlook. What gives you the right to take out those flyers?

If you take a job you respect their rules (up to the limits of the law) or you quit. You have proven that you did not do that at Future Shop and you’re not doing it at your new job.

Yah I got a paper route! Got a problem just another way for me to make money. Future Shop would have lost tens of thousands of dollars due to flyers not going out weekly. Flyers are what sells at Future Shop not the employees. I find the OP’s post absolutely amusing. Aside from the fact it is riddled with grammatical and spelling errors, it is laced with half-truths, prejudice, and outright hostility.

I work at Future Shop as a seasonal employee. I must say that I absolutely love my job, and the people I work with. The customers I deal with, although sometimes difficult, are overall amazing people. If you treat them with respect, and do everything you possibly can to help them, they will most likely show you the same respect in return.

As for your issue with breaks, I have never had an issue with this. As a smoker, I go take a quick 5 minute break every 2-3 hours or so. The management has never given me any cause for concern about this.

The store manager is a great guy; I’ve never had a problem with him. He is respectful, always upbeat, and has a good sense of humour. That being said, he strikes me as the type of guy to command respect…something which he is due. If you disrespect him, you will get on his bad side. That’s life, my friend.

The OPS manager is one of my favourite people there. She is always smiling, never has a negative thing to say about anyone, and seems to genuinely love her job. That’s a rare feat today it seems. Your comment about her being “east-Indian” is exceedingly racist and outright hostile. Her race has absolutely no bearing on her job performance, or her social skills.

Oh, and another thing. 90% of the people at the store, including all of the management, know that I am transgender. Not once, and I mean not a single time, has any staff member of manager given me cause for concern, or discriminated against me in any way. They treat me just like any other employee, which is something I truly respect. It is hard in this world for a manager or employee to set aside their personal opinions on how people lead their lives, and focus only on their professional attitudes. I have nothing but praise for my co-workers and the management for this.

As with any other employer in the world, there are some good people, some bad. That being said, the good FAR outweighs the bad.

Future Shop store #611, located in Belleville, Ontario, is a great place to work. You get what you make of it though. Come into work with a chip on your shoulder and an attitude of entitlement, and you will not be happy. Come in with a smile, do your best, and do your job, and you will be content. It’s just that simple.

As a disclaimer, I am a seasonal employee. I expect to be laid-off on or about January 5, 2010. Although I would welcome the opportunity to remain with Future Shop (either in my department, or somewhere else), they have no obligation to keep me there. What I have said in this post comes from the bottom of my heart, and not from a “I want to suck up” point of view. I mean what I have said.

I used to work here before I resigned to go to university in Toronto. I was a good employee with about a PSP percentage of 14 while still being a sales associate before they phased those out. What that meant was I had to give up all the big sales to product experts if one was available.

The Management

Having worked at this futureshop I can tell you there are a lot of high school politics that go on. The different supervisors and DSMs have slept around with each other and bickered over that. Marc the gm is a nice guy to your face but can be completely hostile behind your back. The former IPG DSM Randy was completely incompetent and tried to tell me that when I was not working I was still representing futureshop and that I could only shop at 611 or take care of my warranty issues there. Essentially he was trying to say I’m not a private citizen when not on their watch. After consulting with the GM he literally yelled this message at me that I am never a customer and that I am a second-class citizen in comparison, customers get treated first and I second whether I am working or not.. also I get the shaft when it comes to helping me with these problems. This guy was eventually demoted and moved to the Kingston store because the entire IPG hated him but he had the full support of Marc.

Theft Coverup:

One of the biggest sales guys in IPG was this newer older guy who had a habit of stealing GPSs and laptops. The audio DSM found out about him, took snapshots of the camera shots and submitted it to Marc. Marc said he would take care of it but nothing happened. So the DSM had to go to the district manager so they could come down and fire him. Marc and Randy (IPG DSM at the time) were extremely pissed about this.

Conclusion

The problem with these managers is that they are high school guys who were promoted through the ranks without any additional education. They do not know business law and they do not know proper management skills. Hence why they think and act the way they do. If they knew anything about law they would know that when I’m not on their watch I can do whatever I want and go wherever I want. Trying to restrict my freedom of movement and choice is laughable.

I worked my ass off for that crappy company and still got treated the way I did. Oh and as for you Nideveta. You better not take so many smoke breaks or im telling you right now you will not be working there for much longer. The only reason why they dont care is obviously because they dont notice. Your lucky that your fellow employess allow you to do that as well. I dont fucking get it how does you being a smoker allow you to take 5 min breaks whenever you feel like (never was accepted when I worked there). You only work there cuz the Operations Manager has a soft spot for gays and people that are different like you!!

Oh and Nideveta I already got what I wanted out of that place trust me. I always talked about how much I hated working there. The one day I put my fist through a 52″ plasma tv cuz I was so angry lol. They said they were gonna watch the cameras and shit hahaha. I never heard anything again about that. I did plenty there thats just one of the things I did to fuck up the ol spot. I used to drop shit and break things all the time I was wreakless and did not care about my job there. I did for the first bit dont get me wrong. Then they lost Greg as the merch sup and shit just slid right downhill all the way. FUCKIN HATED THAT PLACE SO MUCH STILL DO. If I need to go shopping ill go to the mall next time!

There is such a big divide between merch team and everyone else. Sometimes I feel sorry for them. They work shitty hours. Do 90% of the work and then come in and get treated like garbage by half the people there. Anytime theres more than 1 merch guy in a department you hear these words comming from EVERYONE “What you guys having a meeting in the ” Meanwhile the same people that are saying that shit are standing around talking about stupid shit while customers get pissed about not being able to get any help. And to Nideveta. Its great that you enjoy working there and that so far everyone has been so nice. It took me about 2 months before the novelty of getting to work at such a cool store wore off. Worst part about my time here is you can do a thousand things perfectley. But the second you make the SLIGHTEST mistake you hear about it. Not only do you hear about it, you may be lucky enough to have them announce it in the morning meeting. Word to the big bird.

Well Josh I hope that you bring your stellar work attitude of “its a free country” I can do what I want to your Dell Hardware Warranty job. I’m 100% sure your customers appreciate talking to a nitwit with his mouth full. I just lost a lot of respect for Dell. If your the kind of person that they hire I will not be buying a computer through them again.

First off, Future Shop is the devil. Best Buy bought them and the same crap that Best Buy was known for, was just adopted by FS in Canada. There may be some good stores, but they are by far a result of the community they are in an NOT a reflection of the company, culture or policies.
Secondly, noting a persons race is NOT inherently racist . If you want something racist here you go… why are there soooo many indo-pakistani employess at EVERY metrolpolitan location? The burbs, toronto, hamilton ( Bramladesh and Malton a.k.a little mumbai, are a given, come on now…)
I wish I could be colour blind to this and if the quality of service was consistently good or at least not crap, I could believe the argument that ‘the best men/woman are getting the jobs’. However, my experience is that most future shop sales associates will say anything to get a sale and don’t really know that much about technology(I still get blank stares when I mention L2 cache, sort of like a glazed over look). Shit, I catch them in lies or half truths almost everytime I ask them questions(I love tech, but I love messing with these guys even more, ROFL. They sweat like crazy and then always call some other guy over, who barely knows any more info…) They knowingly push bad products, lie about known manufacturer defects and don’t even get me started on the warranties or $99 restore disk….

I am one for open immigration, as the son of an immigrant, but there is definitely reverse racism at play. In fact, an indian friend of mine, 10 years ago basically confirmed something was fishy…one of those wink, wink deals when I asked him WTF.

Oh, and another thing. There are spelling and grammar issues with my post but if that is what you will be hung up on, phew…

p.s. transgendered doesn’t mean you have to be post op or on hormones, that is transsexual. Gender is different…google that shit but I love the burn!

“The Truth”

I was a Future Shop Employee for 6yrs 5 spent as a Manager/Lead. I was wrongfully dismissed after I started keeping track of Marc’s shadiness. My personnel file was full of “write-ups” all missing my signature which means they never happened because to be written up requires the employees signature.

Marc would come in late and leave early nearly every shift his wife would get staff purchase which is also against store policy.

I was also the Manager mentioned above by XDR099 that took pictures of a certain employees stolen goods and did all the digging to find he was stealing. I brought this information to Marc and after a week he still did nothing so I sent all the information to the District team and a few days later with the evidence I compiled the employee was fired. Marc was pissed at me for getting rid of the “best sales guy”…..

When I was let go I was working out side of the shop all day at a marina in the beating July sun making peanuts while the store cashed in thousands in install dollars from my skill set. They could have let me go in the morning when I first came in but they waited until the end of the day when I was finished the install. They used me and abused me but my lawyer had the last word!…..

Future Shop Belleville constantly has a now hiring sign out front because as soon as you stop kissing ass, drinking the cool-aid or making them money your GONE they do not care about YOU…I was an ASSET to the company not a run of the mill sales guy I have an Education a Trade certification and as soon as I stopped being a YES man I was out the door after 6yrs of service and not one single write up!…..Don’t kid your selves with their “family” crap the only thing that matters in the future Shop family is the money you make them!….

They do not allow non-smokers to have more then a 30min lunch and no other breaks during the day trust me!….While smokers would get their 30min lunch followed by a 5-10min smoke break and at least 3-4 5-10min breaks during the day for smokes.

I could write so much more but I will just leave it at the management team at Belleville Future Shop lacks Maturity, Integrity, Accountability and Respect they are no skill lackeys who have no marketable skills out side of the Future Shop fantasy World!…..

I used to work as a merchandiser too and wasn’t allowed a coffee break either, just a half hour lunch break. Total b.s. . Not only that, we had a bitch of a ops manager. She was a inexperienced 24 year old who thought she was experienced. I think it’s very stupid to put someone that young in that kind of position. And I was treated like shit too. I was eventually let go before my probationary period was up. Thank god, saved my sanity.
