We all know the issues with Future Shop extended warranties, lousy tech service, misinformation, etc., so whenever I buy anything I have low expectations, and ALWAYS do my own research. Today I was looking at buying an Epson Artison 810, and was so pissed at what I found that I just HAD to vent it out somewhere!
First, their price of $350 was $50 more that anywhere else I could find. They never lowered it from the initial release price, even though the MSRP is now $300.
Second, Epson was offering a rebate of $70, but the rebate from Epson specifically stated that it was NOT valid at Future Shop and three other chains.
Third, went to one of the other chains and picked up the printer for $199. They commented that Epson gave them the rebate directly so the customer would not have to bother mailing in the rebate, which is why the rebate was not valid for them or the other chains mentioned on the mail in rebate.
CLICK: Future Shop is selling the printer for 350, maybe the MSRP of $300 to make them look like they’re giving you a deal, then POCKET the $70 Epson is giving them.
That’s a new low. Thanks another cool story when a ’slamming Future Shop’ conversation comes up.
PS : Have three times in line now told people buying a %@*% $30 USB cable that they can get one that works just as well across the street at the dollar store for $1. Love the look on their face. But really, if people are too lazy to research pricing, then they can pay the big bucks that keep the pricing on the stuff I do buy at Future Shop low!
NH

If Epson says the deal is not valid at Future Shop why are you claiming that Future Shop “pockets” the rebate? What proof do you have that they receive it?
And if people want to buy a $30 cable that’s their choice. No one is forcing them to do so. When I worked at FS I sold hundreds of those cables and made $5 a pop on them.
Awesome.
