I feel terrible for these people that work on the floor for future shop. The fact that they have to try and manipulate customers in to buying PSP’s is ridiculous.

I recently bought an LCD T.V. and got sucked in to buying a 4 year PSP. After coming home though, I couldn’t stop thinking about it so I decided to do some research on how effective these PSP and EW actually are. PSP/EW = Fail. These corporations make literally millions a year off these sales alone. Just that one fact should be a no brainer.

So I returned my things and came in more prepared this time. Told them to save me the bullshit talk and just give me back my money so I can get a 40″ version of my series 5 samsung for the price of the 32″ I had bought with the PSP. Done deal.

Just from this experience, here’s some advice for all you peoples on here. Don’t get taken advantage of. Research your product before going in to Futureshop. Those salesman don’t give a f**k about you or your money as it is how they are trained unfortunately. With the internet so accessible now, there is no reason why you shouldn’t research prior to big purchases. If you don’t, then it’s your own fault that you get treated like a sucker and get robbed by these guys and quite frankly deserve it. We live in a concrete jungle and it’s survival of the fittest and only the strong survive. LOL. Cliche but so true.

It’s unfortunate that we have to turn to futureshop and bestbuy for our electronics most of the time… but they do offer the goods. Just do your research yourself, don’t expect good service from a corporation, they became a corporation for a reason; Think about it.

Here’s something to think about. According to consumer reports the only TV that you should buy the extended warranty on is rear projection. Your a shmuck for doing research after the fact. Warranties are offered for your own good. If you didn’t want it then you shouldn’t have bought it. If you still succumb to peer pressure maybe you shouldn’t be allowed out in public unsupervised. Think about it!!

NOTTOBETRIFLEDWITH although may be a bit rude. Is overall very right. You mention you got ’sucked in’ to buying a 4 year psp. this really is your own fault. Always walk into the store with as much knowledge about the product your buying and all of its flaws to determine yourself if you need it.

Also those salespeople actually do care about you and your money. If you have a terrible experience and return your item and never come back= less cash for that salesperson. Customer for Life is a huge deal at FS and the reason they have comission is because they (are supposed to) provide excellent, personnal customer service.

I couldn’t of said it better msyelf.

This is to all the ignorant people who believe everything they see on the net/TV.

Service Plans are insurance. The salespeople do NOT make the products. They are made usually in Mexico, or China so they travel a long way. Everyone wants CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP.. So now these TVs are made super quick, and the MFS warranty has dropped down to 1 year. Sure the average idiot would say ” Well if lasts the first year it will last past that” How is that true with Anything??

I used to work at F.S. Myself and I just laugh at all the people who thing Service plans are a rip off and we pressure people so we can make money. When your TV breaks after a year.. we will make more money when you come to us to buy a new TV. We make more money off the stupid cables then service plans. Service plans benefit you. Over 3 years we had at LEAST 2 calls a day with TVs breaking down.. The ones that have PSP are happy as SH*T because they usually get a new TV for free…and the ones that don’t.. now it is our fault their TV is broken and they say they will never shop at FS again because our service sucks. Go figure

When you people are doing research… start by calling ANY local service/repair shop and ask them how much they charge to service a TV.. Ask how much labour is alone… not including parts, or picking up your big as$ TV and dropping it back off to you.

Any TV 40″ or bigger, or anything with moving parts is the best thing to get Service plans on. The salespeople are just doing their job, they present the benefits and highly reccommend it. If you choose to get it.. fine… if you don’t.. then don’t be a dumbas$ and think you know more than them..

Again.. it IS insurance… just because you bought it once and didn’t need it.. doesn’t mean you have to open your mouth and tell everyone that it is not worth it. People use PSPs EVERYDAY.

Sorry for the rant.. This is not directed to any one in specific..

This is just for all the salespeople who feel as I do. And to all those customers.. do real research, don’t be an as$ to the sales people, brush your teeth, wear deodorant.. and maybe once try working in customer service for a week, amybe then your opinions will change..

HAHA brush your teeth and wear deodorant nice!
I used to sell cameras at FS AND sell PSP,which I NEVER “manipulated” anyone into buying and if you feel that you can be “manipulated” into buying some thing that you don’t need then maybe you should go shopping with your mommy so she can make the decisions for you.

The truth is they sell ELECTRONIC devices, not mechanical devices, which are made by the millions by machines, not by hand,so they do break for NO REASON at all and if they didn’t there would be no PSP or EW and the manufacturer would go out of business.

yes FS DOES make millions of PSP,however, they lose substantially more.example,If a camera AT COST is $200,the psp for two years is about $50,now if that camera breaks it has to be fixed and it costs about $80/hr labor, not including parts(go check your local camera service depot if you don’t believe me).after 3 fixes FS replaces the camera for you and typically you get a MUCH better model as yours is now obsolete,so it costs FS another $200(giving you the benefit of the doubt)so that $440 that FS has put into something that paid them $50.Now im not math whiz but is that worth it for them?no,but it protects our purchases and keeps customers coming back.So i think danzo337 THIS is a no brainer.

We were NOT trained to “not give a f**k either”,it was the complete opposite, and sales people get fired for lying or doing sketchy things.FS is big on maintaining loyal customers and drawing in new ones and the fact that they are commissioned means they DO care about you and your money more than a non-commissioned salesperson because if you return something because they “lied” to you or “sucked” you into it,then the commission they made is taken away from them,so its in their best interest to get you what you need, not what they want you to get.

I agree that you should research EVERYTHING about the product before you come into the store, that’s just being smart, but the consumer reports thing makes me laugh!especially when a customer would deny PSP because they read on the internet that it’s bad.Well danzo337 im sure of you of cholesterol and how its bad you but im sure it doesn’t stop you from driving a tasty bigmac, chips, french fries,Chinese food etc into you now does it?people that read, believe then follow and let it dictate their buying decisions are just mindless sheep and unfortunately are being “manipulated” by consumer reports to not buy something that may very well save your big or small purchase from only lasting one year, sometimes only 90 days.

To end,the only suckers were the ones who DID NOT buy it and came back a year or months down the road (as many warranties only cover certain things for 90 days)whining about how WE sold them a garbage piece of electronics and how we owe them a deal, money,a gift card or some other ridiculous. Its quit funny but sometimes they would get something out off it,screwing over the salesperson,so what I would do is write “PSP denied” on the receipt because most people come into the store and tell customer service that the sales person never offered them PSP and now they have a broken device.Once I do that they realize that they are f**ked if it breaks, and then they reconsider, but mainly its to cover my ass because its our job to offer the customer everything.

Yeah, your like the jack asses who will complain after the first year that nobody offered them a service plan.

Ok,

Seems like most of you don’t see the big picture here.

I really don’t give a fuck what any of you think. I ain’t no sucker like the rest of you who like being a statistic in their annual revenue check.

This was a while ago but I can remember how it went down as I haven’t walked back in to a future shop since.

I repeatedly said no to the PSP plan, but he kept insisting and playing around with the price on the computer trying to make it look more appealing.

Not only was he playing around, his manager came by and started doing the same thing.

It got to the point where I felt like I had no choice. Gave me no room to breathe. Is it hard to understand that there maybe some people out there that don’t like sales people trying to stick their hands in your pocket constantly? And try to play games with your mind?

Fuck future shop, their sales pitch is geared towards idiots who walk in with open pockets.

If I need to buy major marked up goods, it’ll be at bestbuy.

As for my TV, I ended up getting something at costco. 90 day return policy, extended warranty comes with the product free of charge, no questions asked.

That’s how TV shopping should be.

And for you Lacey.

I know the risks of buying a TV.

I have bought quite a few in my time.

Who the fuck are you to take personal shots at me like you know me?

If my shit breaks, and the warranty is up, thats tough luck the way I see it, I have better things to do than to try and jew my way out for a new T.V.

I’ve worked in sales when I was in High School although not electronics per se.

And if you read the first line, I try to relate to what it’s like in their shoes.

Brush my teeth? Wear deodorant?

Go back to school and get an education.

Maybe you won’t have to be a sales person trying to make a living off of selling warranties.

I had fun selling warranties. Through my years at the store I carefully broke down what each customer would say to decline a warranty and then found ways around each one.

Thank god I did because now I can pay for school. :)

Man most of us consumers are smart, we research the shit out of products so we can you have an educated conversation about certain products which I love doing with my sales guys, its incredible how nice most sales guys are when you speak to them like human beings. yes I am sure the sales guys have made money from my warranties, but you know what I am willing to spend the little extra to make sure I have a product that will perform for me, my tv with the 4 yr warranty crapped out 3 and a bit years in, and guess what tv got sent away, 2 months later BAM brand spanken new tv, I continually go in and talk to sales guys to see what is new on the market or what their opinions are on certain products. Like I have said before go find some sales guys that you can talk with and their you go a sales guy I will always go to that is always willing to help. I remember on a couple of occasions I went in about a product that fs does not carry and the sales guy took the time and found a place that carried it, not only did he do that he called them and asked about it(quality etc…) My point again go find some sales guys who know their stuff and are personable and you wont have any issues. I do not recommend their warranty on everything, not by any means, but I do recommend you at least talk to a salesman about it and see what he says

I understand you may have had a bad experience from ONE employee fair enough. If you wish to cut up the entire company based on this one experience then that is your opinion which you are entitled to.

As for “Brush my teeth? Wear deodorant”? That was not directed towards you. If you ever worked in retail (which you say you did) you would laugh at that comment because 85% of the people have bad B.O., bad breath, smell of beer/pot/smoke/pee etc. Which is a big pet peeve of most sales people.

–”Go back to school and get an education.
Maybe you won’t have to be a sales person trying to make a living off of selling warranties.”

I am not here to compare education degrees with you. I do have extensive education in plenty of fields yet happen to love sales. By your comment alone, you have insulted millions of people who are in the sales business… and I suppose all of them are un-educated? according to you.

Speaking of un-educated… BestBuy OWNS Futureshop… They are the same company. They get your money either way Dumba$$.

And if you choose to buy your TV from the same place that sells family packs of toilet paper? be my guest. Since you are extremely educated I am sure you know that they usually sell scaled down/older models of products. As for their “Extended warranty”? try to cash in on it and see what happens.. I hope your membership hasn’t expired by then.. But I am sure you are using your mom’s anyway.

BestBuy/Future Shop together are the #1 selling Electronics only store in North America. I assure you it is no loss by you, or a few others who complain decide not to shop there anymore. I have the stats for the total revenue for boxing day alone. They are CLEARLY doing something right wether your peanut brain can comprehend it or not.

Something to say?
