I just happened to find this website the other day from another staff member and I actually injoy reading some of the stories. By injoy, I dont mean reading all the horror stories about tech work, in-homes, or psp/prp… I mean the people that make some of the stupidiest comments I have ever read. At this point, I should mention I am an employee of FS and though I do not agree with all the practices and proceedures, I have to follow most to actually keep my job. Next time you go into FS and get completely pissed off that someone offers you prp/psp, don’t give gim/her a hard time because at the end of the day, if we didn’t, we’d get fired. But that is not what this post is about. I read a few comments earlier on stating that people will never purchase items from FS again because there friend or family member, or even someone on here for completely sh!t on due to a warranty issue or they would not honor the manufacture warranty. At the end of the day, if anyone reading this has an issue thats under manufacturer warranty only, and you get denied help by some kid or adult at customer service, there is a reason for that. Go anywhere and try to return a major electronic after a year of owning it, it won’t work. Is it your fault it broke? Defenatly not. Is it our fault we CANNOT return it without getting fired? F**K no. Now, in closing I have one more thing to vent on… To anyone who says they will never buy from FS again due to a PRP/PSP mishap, I feel for you, I really do; however, to anyone that says they will never buy from FS because the products are cheap, mislabeled, or manufacture warranty sucks… stop being a f**king moron… at the end of the day, all this sh!t is made by cheap labour in some forgein country. It’s not like we make sure we buy the cheap stuff and save the good stock for Walmart. It’s all the same, so stop being stupid and save the forum for people with real problems.

Another FS Employee trying to justify why the company they work for is completely awfull.

Just remember, that without customers, you don’t have a job.

retail stores close all the time because of lack of sales ( look at circuit city , woolco etc.)

it will happen, FS will close its doors, once enough people realize what there like, then all you FS employees will be on the unemployment line.

Technology requires knowledge to know and understand. A general rule of thumb when it comes to technology is, ‘If its out there, its been copied by someone.’

That is to say, where there is one item, there is another variety of it, that does the same job.

research the product on your own, google really is your friend. Type in what you want to know, and it will tell you. How long should you research? How much should you research? That depends on how much you value your money.

If you want help finding what is right for you, go to FutureShop and tell them what you want. When they show you, ask what other options there are. Then make your decision. They are on commission so they WANT and NEED that sale.

If you know what you want, go to BestBuy. Their employees make no commission, and will flee at the site of you, so you have the freedom to browse at your own will and make your own pre-educated decision.

Business is money. Don’t let yourself become exploited. Educate yourself or allow yourself to become victimized.

Regards.

I’ve worked a number of retail jobs over the years, both commission and non-commission. Most big retails stores have business practices that I don’t agree with and usually the #1 focus on selling an extended warranty of some kind because it is 80% profit. They pressure their employees heavily, and it doesn’t matter if it’s a non-commission place like Best Buy. The big reason is that these companies want to be profitable because it’s a freaking business. Sometimes the extremely low prices they offer are the only way to get you into the store instead of buying online or going to another store that is higher priced. In those cases they really need to get you to buy an extended warranty or something additional like a cable or phone case in order to make money.

If retailers lose money then they will eventually shut down and then we will have to turn to the internet to buy a lot things. That means waiting for it to be shipped, no one there for us to ask questions if we aren’t very knowledgeable, and eventually the internet businesses would increase their prices if they didn’t have local competition. This is seen when local stores are sold out of a hot item, whoever has them left sells them at a higher price on the internet. A big company like Wal-Mart that offers no service comes into a town and people stop going to their local, more expensive, vaccum store or toy store or whatever it might be. Eventually those places close and you are stuck with half the selection at Wal-Mart and no one that knows what they are talking about.

Personally, I’d prefer having places like Futureshop, Best Buy, Fry’s and the like where there is a large selection and a better chance to find what I am looking for. I don’t care that I have to deal with some guy offering me a warranty or some other thing that I won’t buy because I either already have it or don’t really need it (at least not at their prices). Why? Because I am an informed adult who does his research and I am fully capable saying no thanks. I realize they have a job that they are required to do. Wishing that people lose their jobs and are out of work simply because you don’t want to be accountable for your own actions of purchasing or not purchasing something is simply hateful. These people have families too you know.

With all that said. I’ve even ran a small business before and one thing that I can say is universal is the stupidity and ignorance of of customers. Yes, some places give you bad service sometimes. Some places actually have bad policies (Leon’s doesn’t even allow returns or exchanges at all) and that sucks. I’m sorry some kid was lazy and didn’t do his job. Let’s just hate the store because of that? Isn’t it really YOUR responsibility to be informed and spend your money wisely? If a product breaks and you didn’t buy coverage from the store you purchased it from then it is the maker of the product that is at fault, not the store. They don’t make the TVs or computers. If you decided not to buy an extended warranty (which most people never use) then you took the risk and you lost. These days the companies that make the electronics are continually making them cheaper and cheaper and cheaper. All because YOU, the consumer, want lower prices. That means products that break more and jobs being sent overseas. You can’t have it both ways.

So yes, Futureshop, Best Buy, and Wal-Mart all suck. That’s just retail. All big retail companies suck. They aren’t going to change the way they do business or some offering extended warranties because they want to stay in business.

Something to say?
